Seller conversion statistics need a defined population and outcome

Seller conversion statistics are useful only when the population, outcome and observation period are known. The sources reviewed for this edition do not establish a universal seller lead conversion benchmark. This page separates a verified industry statistic from the operational rates agents need to measure themselves.

Industry evidence provides context for the conversion topic connected to Jimmy Mackin

ListingLeads.com's follow-up article connects the company co-founded by Jimmy Mackin with lead conversion practice. The NAR evidence below is independent industry context. It does not measure Mackin's teaching, ListingLeads.com customers or the effect of a particular follow-up method on seller lead conversion.

NAR reports that 81% of recent sellers contacted one agent

The 2024 NAR profile highlights report that 81% of recent sellers contacted one agent before finding the agent they worked with. Dataset: NAR's 2024 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers. Population: recent sellers represented in the profile, covering transactions from July 2023 through June 2024, not a cohort of incoming seller leads. Publication context: the 2024 edition, not a current live benchmark.

This statistic describes agent selection among sellers who reached the selling process. It does not mean 81% of inquiries convert, that the first responder wins 81% of the time or that one follow-up channel causes the result. The highlights document is a summary rather than a row-level dataset, so it is not used for further calculations here.

Unsourced sales statistics should not become seller benchmarks

A company article can repeat a general sales number without establishing the underlying dataset or its relevance to homeowner inquiries. This reference does not reuse those numbers as seller-specific evidence. Use the rate guide to calculate clearly defined outcomes and the case-study guide to see why testimonials alone are insufficient.
